I'm on Facebook as my 3 children each live in a different European country. I can follow them on FB, look at photos from their lives and travels and they can do the same with me. Only my family and friends can look at my page and photos. Also, old girlfriends from before I moved abroad (over 20 years ago) plus girlfriends from the countries I've lived in the last 20 years, have contacted me on FB and I find it very exciting to be in contact with many of them again. Back then we were young mothers, now we are grandmothers. So yes, I like FB.

Can you be "friends" on facebook with someone you are dating? Or does it reveal too much information too fast?
I don't see why it would be; As a matter of fact, think of the saved time! If he/she ends up being weird you can find out quicker and not waste your time.

Alternatively if you are curious and don't really want to ask you can check a little yourself. It works both ways. I've never considered communication a bad thing. Ultimately it'll allow you to be more open and sharing.

As for displaying your status on Facebook as in a relationship with so and so; That's a personal choice. You might be put in a spot to introduce some people.
