It can be both. If you've been friends that long, he could be making a move towards something more or (i've done this before) you just came out of a bad relationship and are hurting so he tried to make you feel better. One of my best friends was literally crushed when her bf left her. She would say how the small things now were huge and one of those was being noticed (for better word) by a man but in a way she was comfortable with. Since we'd known each other form highschool, I walked her to the door as if we were on a date...it made her smile, she actually thanked me years later for that night.

Definately talk with him and be as open and clear as possible with yourself and him. Best of luck!
Ahem...yeah, that's where I went wrong...I wasn't clear and direct with him after he tried dropping the little hints. Which is pretty ridiculous, because I've been able to be direct with others before.

I guess I asked the question to get an idea of what "can I walk you to the door" can mean for different guys, so I have a better idea of how to handle it if it comes up again.

Thanks...I will be direct and just communicate from now on.

Sounds like it was his way of letting you know he was interested in more than just friendship - he may not have been "expecting" anything that night, but might just have wanted to use this as his way of showing further interest in you.

Ditto!

What do you want?
I told him very directlyquite a fewtimes in the beginning I only wanted to be friends, and that never changed for me.

Alli08,

If a guy isn't married, engaged or in a serious LTRand wants to spend a lot of time with you, then he usually wants more than friendship. He told you he only wanted to be friend AFTER you told him the same thing. So he was telling you what you wanted to hear, hoping to change your mind after you get to know him.

Now he should have accepted that you only wanted to be friends. In fact, you were upfront with him and when he couldn't get out of the friends zone, he got upset and began treating you poorly.

To avoid this situation in the future, pay more attention to how a guy acts. Does he look deeply into your eyes, does he jump at any chance to spend time with you, does he compliment you on your looks frequently? Those are signs he's attracted and wants more than just friendship.

I agree! But Alli I have to say I am one of those girls that can recognize this as someone tells me - but if it had happened to me i can't guarantee I would have picked that up til later. Sometimes I don't pick up on the signals until later. Anybody else have that problem?
Lol, yup.

I also forget to comment on how nice my date looks, etc. until after we have parted and by then she is already pi$$ off. Of course it is well established that I am a complete doofus.
Your are not alone Gr8. I'm a fellow doofus. Just did that same thing last night on a date. Forgot to mention how great she looked. And she reallly looked great. I just lose brain function when I first meet a date.
