I would not only agree with Boomergal that you consider NOT taking a book so seriously.. is that one of those date doctor books flashing from some of these sites about short cuts to hooking up with women?? I always laugh at those things.

I stick to a rule that no one is perfect. When people try to tell you some kind of rule-book to dating, I try to imagine whether this advice is really from successful dating or whether it's built from being burned and hurt or even worse, burning and hurting others to recover from one's own past.

In other words, the advice of others should be no more than 50% of your determination. (For me I'd go even lower)

The rest is up to you. Remember, like some have said, yes everyone has the same positive desires they hope to gain from the dating world.

But remember, people also come into it with negative things too and sometimes the positives you hope for, are also a negative to be reinforced for others.

If women are treating you bad, then I would suggest you are encountering this problem. There is such a thing as bullying in dating as maybe you know.

So you need to muster your willpower and carefully move into situations on the lookout for manipulation. Find ways to make the early stuff about equal footing. The uncooperative or demanding should "raise a flag" so to speak. The rare girl who seems smart enough to understand might just be worthy.
