MSmom, my advice from 1 single mom to another is to not introduce your kids to him until you have established a relationship that goes beyond a few dates. There's no need for your kids to be meeting every man you casually date. It's very difficult on the children when they get close to someone and then he's suddenly gone. (This is the voice of experience.)

I should say, too, that when I say 'meet' I really mean interact. I don't have a huge problem with my kids meeting a man at the door. I really mean that I don't want them spending any time with him and getting to know him until I know there is something happening.

Also, I would just introduce him as a friend. Children as young as yours are too young to understand more than that.

Your most important job is to protect your children. Yes, disclose that you have children, but they don't have to meet them. Especially, when you're only dating and still getting to know that person.

You don't know their history, and while I hate to be a debbie downer, what if they have questionable past. Really get to know the guy and if he has kids, learn about his kids. Make sure that he is someone important enough to meet your children.

Better to use extreme caution and be safe.

Children become attached to friendly adults very quickly, and they can be very upset when those people disappear from their lives. For your children's sake, do not introduce a partner to your children until an exclusive relationship has been established and is going well. My recommendation would be to think in terms of at least a few months of a happy growing relationship before the boyfriend meets your children.

You should, of course, tell your dates at the earliest opportunity that you have children.
