Hi everyone,

I'm a senior in high school and there's a girl in some of my classes that I'm interested in.

We have some good conversations before each class, usually starting with homework and then moving on to non-school related topics, and over time I've started to become interested in her and I want to get to know her better. We have an open campus at my school, and since one of the classes I have with her is before lunch, I asked if she wanted to go with me and some friends (who she knows) to get lunch. I wasn't planning on asking her, but the opportunity presented itself and I took it. She declined (she already had plans for lunch), but said that we should try sometime later and we agreed that I'd text (she prefers this over calls) her in a few days to try to set something up.

A few days later (actually, that was yesterday), I texted her asking if she was free in the next few weeks, but she said she was busy and had too much homework and apologized. I responded with "Don't worry about it. Good luck with the homework." And she thanked me for understanding.

So, does she sound like she's not interested or is she just playing hard to get? (I know she might really be too busy, I'm mainly concerned about if she sounds like she's not interested).

I'm not sure if the homework thing was made up or not. I know for a fact that she has two fairly long papers to write for strict teachers (you have to spend a lot of time on the paper if you want a good grade) as well as math homework. Also, a lot of teachers are starting to assign more homework (not to mention more difficult homework) as the semester is getting close to being over. So I can understand how she might have a lot of homework.

So, what do you think?

Thanks.

How good are you at math?

You could suggest a homework date. This will give you an opportunity to spend some time together. Then grab a pizza after. Homework always made me hungry.

If she declines again, and doesn't counter with a date she is available. Then I would take this as she's not interested.

I think that she cares about her grades and is making her homework a priority. I don't blame her.

Used to be good, not so much now. I haven't had an official math class for a few years, and you know how quickly most of us forget math.

I don't blame her. If I had more homework, I would too.

No clue what you mean. All I know is 5 out of 4 people have problems with fractions.

======================

This doesn't account for her declining to have lunch. Meeting for lunch shouldn't detract from homework, and she likely eats lunch every day.

I think you need to observe whether she's dating or hanging out with other guys. If she is, but can't find time for you because of homework, then you have your answer. If she has no time for other guys either, then you might try once more. Three turn downs ought to be enough no matter what excuse she uses.

As Jato said, homework doesn't account for lunches ...and if she's already refusing you for an open invitation over the "next few weeks" without a specific day and time, then ...

She's just not interested.

She already knows what she's doing for every meal and every evening of every single day for "the next few weeks" ??? I'm lucky to have tonight's dinner planned!

I, too, have a senior in high school, rebuilding an engine and writing a senior paper about it, which takes all school year (and that's just 1 class)...funny how he always seems to have at LEAST 1 free night per weekend for hanging out.

Although being very nice about it, she is not interested in you in boyfriend capacity....you've already entered the "friend zone."

I tend to agree with this. Is she REALLY doing homework 24/7 for the next few weeks, with no breaks for meals or anything? Sounds like an excuse to me, especially in high school.

I suggest pursuing other girls. They can't all be doing homework.
