I'm 49, and had a major stroke @ 46, should I share that info in my profile, or wait until I get to know someone a little better? I am very fortunate to be alive - I have ephasia, but that is the only noticable thing I carry around since my recovery.

I wouldn't necessarily put it in the profile. Online dating is strange. People take on a kind of comparison shopping mentality and they will screen out on the strangest things.

If no one meeting you would be able to tell you'd had a stroke, I would save it for a first or second meeting conversation and then bring it up casually. If the aphasia is apparent when you meet...for example if you are speech impaired, that might be something to mention once you get to OC with someone, but that's a personal choice.

Good luck. There are several members here who've been through similar challenges. Perhaps they'll weigh in with first-hand insight for you.

I do not favor disclosing medical or other perceive deficiecies in dating profiles.

For one thing, you have no way to know what your matches are looking for, while disclosure sounds like "woe is me."

My belief is that disclosure is only relevant when it impacts a selected activity; for instance, if your match suggests an activity which you can't do or that involves too high a risk, then that is the time to disclose.

Obviously, you need to be judicious about this, as you do not want to waste time and money on people who will ultimately dump you anyway once they find out.
