I have recently started talking to my ex again through text messages and now sometimes we talk on the phone. Its been 3 years since our breakup and hes with someone else. I still have strong feelings for him and I want to know the best way to try to get him back. I have talked to his girlfriend and never caused any trouble I have been a mutual friend but its killing me inside.

He's with someone else... you said it yourself. You say you've been friendly with the new girlfriend. Would you be OK with yourself if you succeded and stole her boyfriend?? If so, go for it.
Otherwise, strive to be a better person and find someone who is available.

Yeah - what she said! Also, you didn't say that he still has any feelings for you (not that it would make any difference)....why would you go there?? Move on.
