posters not showing their faces on eHarmony advice

Why do only a small minority, such as myself, on eHarmony advice put up an actual photo of themselves for the avatar? I mean, if your SO is reading your posting, your SO will know whom you are talking about. I do realize that because my photo is showing, I need to be discreet, but I don't think I would be any less discreet if my photo was not showing. [Others would still know if I was referring specifically to them. Maybe if someone is anonymous here, they think they won't be found out?] I find it a little ironic that many of those who don't show their faces here will complain about no photos in profiles on eH proper. I'm just curious; I would guess there might be more than one reason. [For one, I would understand if the poster had a past traumatic experience that [s]he would not want the world to know about.

Because I'm not here to attract a mate with my looks. I live on the other side of the world. This place is a lot of fun, and I think it's even more fun to flirt, when some things are left to imagination

This is entirely different from eH, though; it's an open and public forum, not a private "match" profile. Most of the people who don't post pics here do post them in their profile.

More people actually were posting their photos for awhile, but stopped after eHA started pushing publicizing links via Twitter and Facebook and whatever other social networking sites.

Although I admit that I do enjoy seeing people's pictures on eHA, I don't find any compelling reasons to post my own. Plus, it amuses me when people assume I'm a man...lol.

I used to have my photo on the advice boards. However, I took it down when these boards became more main stream rather than an extension of eharmony in a family/friend like "small town" atmosphere. Personally, I feel some people read a lot into a picture, profile info...and feel they know the whole person to make judgment calls about them. So it's another reason I've decided to take down such details here.

My eharmony profile has photos so my matches can see me. Here I find if someone wants to talk as a friend or more you have the private message that you could exchange email addresses.

I guess I'm just at the point that for better or worse...I rather someone look at the value of my words. Nothing more ...nothing less...and I'm also less likely to get the private messages from those advertising etc.

I don't post a picture here because it is a public site and I do not want colleagues and students of mine to recognize me if they were to be browsing eHA. I sometimes post things here that are very personal and private, and I rely on the anonymity of a username and avatar.

I do opt to include pictures on my profile in an album that my "friends" here can access, but which is not open publicly. That way, people I know from the boards can see who I am...and more importantly, they can see what both of my cats look like.

To be VERY honest, if I really put up my picture I would be recognizable and I would really have to watch what I say, let's just say that this world is extremely judgemental and words can be misconstrued very easily. Something that I say over here may be interpreted in a negative way without me having the benefit of arguing my case properly.

when i had my picture up i kept getting weird PM's and friend requests from members who have never posted before and haven't since. I assumed they saw my pic from some type of search they did on dating advice and just had to talk to me. I'm that sexay. LOL.
