C'mon, people. There are lots of legitimate businesses that do this sort of thing. I'm sure the OP would be interested in knowing if people have used services like "It's Just Lunch" or others that take a more individual approach to matchmaking...

there are a lot of these legitimate services. they are usually expensive and they don't guarantee much other than dates. I had a friend who used one without much success. but other than that i can't offer any more advice.

There really are matchmaking services out there. One is called "Together". They do have a web-site. They conduct a detailed interview and background check. I'm not sure what they charge for their services. I too have thought about trying them, since I sure haven't had a lot of success with internet dating either. And so far E-Harmony has not been what it's all cracked up to be.

I got suckered into an interview with Together. They are a matchmaking service. This interview was as intense and probing as my background investigation when i was applying to be a police officer.

They don't tell you how much the service is until the end. Now, the price has probably gone up since i went in, but for the lowest tiered membership, they would match me with 6, count them, 6 different people in a year. How much did that cost. $3,000/year. This is ONLY an introduction, no more than that. It would be the same as if you got a match from EH. No guarantee that they would go out with you, just that they would "put you in contact". Oh, they require you to give them financial information like your social security so they can do a background check on you. They would also run my credit, which, I was 100% against. I don't give out my SSN to anyone.

Fortunately, i didn't shell out the money, because I was so steamed after leaving that interview, that i signed onto EH that night. Blew 50 bucks over $3000.00. Got more than 6 dates AND met the person i'm going to marry. So bleh.

Can you tell I'm sore at them?

Pretty much, if you got money to burn. Then do it. It may help. It can't hurt really. When i was in the interview, the highest tier membership (I think it was probably $30,000/year), they said they would provide personal shoppers and consultants to get you married.

No, but I do remember the last season of Frasier where he joins a matchmaking service to find a girl, ends up going on these horrible dates and then falls in love with his matchmaker

Wow . . . $3,000/year for six dates. It may very well be cheaper to just call a pimp.
