I see a common theme in several of the cases described -- low maintenance. That is the quality I find most attractive in a woman. Women who believe they are the center of the universe are a huge turn-off. I think that's ultimately the quality that women look for in a man, too.
The #1 reason why men married their wives because she was a nice person in such B.S!!! If these men didn't like what their wives looked like, they would NOT take the time to know them enough to see if she's nice or not!! Men only care about LOOKS first!!!

I do think people do a lot of post hoc rationalization in many areas of life to they feel better about their behavior.
Look at the ages of the men interviewed. Other than the 34 year old, the rest were "young(er)" in a different time than this one. The world has changed so much. Things are so different now and women are so different now that men don't go for the same things that they're fathers and grandfathers did.
This article is right on the mark. I see this happen all the time. We men may date women based on their outward appearance but we marry women based on who they are inside.
This is a result of hundreds of thousands of years of evolution.
I totally agree with sunkissed222 . For whatever reason society has gotten a LOT less nice and a LOT more rude - how are we gaining from that?
Some cities and states are more rude than others. Since moving to Southern California I've found it a very tough place for finding a good-looking woman who's not mean, desperate, or nuts (or all three). Most just want to party and are looking for a guy with money - gold diggers. I'm growing more cynical each day... aweful isn't it? Has anyone had this experience, or am I just that "lucky"?
