This is all fine and good, but don't pigeon hole your friends. I've been to go to go filling a couple of these roles and sometimes it's annoying because they're not really connecting with you... they're just using you to fill one of these roles for them. Make real connections with people and appreciate them for their qualities, not just for what you get from them.

I've heard it said before that when trying to improve yourself for the better, it's sometimes those that are closest to you that hold you back. They depend on you for their needs and without realizing it may resist your efforts to change.

I'm just saying, let your friends be who they are and if you are missing one of the above... let it be an opportunity to make a new friend.

SELFISH? You do not know me at all! How you can judge somebody you do not know this one?

I believe you have missed the punchline. But if I have to explain it, it wouldn't be funny

Anyway, all I meant is that I can be there for my friends in the capacity and support that they need from me. I never implied that I have pigoened holed my friends and was not "Mak[ing] real connections with people and appreciate them for their qualities, not just for what [I can] get from them"

If I did not appreciatepeople [my friends]for their qualities, I would not consider them as afriend. I don't waste time to be fake with people that I do not respect.

Every straight guy needs a gay guy as a friend. Not for sex, nor to enable him to use the line, "Some of my best friends are gay!," but to allow him to see other perspectives; to take him to gay bars so he can discover how it feels to be hit on by someone he does not desire.

This isn't so different from what a women needs too! But one thing the article didn't touch base on is "The Work Spouse". I am not sure if it is a necessity but it's definitely a reality.

Get real. This isn't talking about friendship; it's talking about how to use people. Guys need to be liked and to know how to like other people, not use them.

I agree. "Whaa a dumb article"
