People are grossed out when one licks oneself. Sorry....couldn't resist.
I saw a Hallmark card a while back showing two cats and it said something like, "I want to lick you with the intensity with which I lick myself."

Sorry... couldn't resist to respond

Unconditional love. Have you evern noticed how loyal pets can be? Even in the face of the worst adversity and cruel owners who abuse their pets, these animals still cling to humans. In a sense they are showing us how much God loves us, even when we reject and curse him. He is waiting for us to come to him and surrender our lives to Him.

"Dogs are our link to paradise. They don't know evil or jealousy or discontent. To sit with a dog on a hillside on a glorious afternoon is to be back in Eden, where doing nothing was not boring... it was peace."
~ Milan Kundera

"A dog teaches a boy fidelity, perseverance, and to turn around three times before lying down."
~ Robert Benchley

"When a man's best friend is his dog, that dog has a problem."
~ Edward Abbey

"The more I see of men, the more I admire dogs."
~ Jeanne-Marie Roland

And my favorite:

"If you pick up a starving dog and make him prosperous he will not bite you; that is the principal difference between a dog and a man."
~ Mark Twain

Remember, dogs and cats are better than kids because they:
(1) eat less,
(2) don't ask for money all the time,
(3) are easier to train,
(4) normally come when called,
(5) never ask to drive the car,
(6) don't smoke or drink,
(7) don't want to wear your clothes,
(8) don't have to buy the latest fashions,
(9) don't need a gazillion dollars for college and
(10) if they get pregnant, you can sell their children ...

Afriend going through a divorce recently moved into my guest room while she sorts things out. I've always lived wiht pets of some sort, dogs/cats/fish/cute rodents. She's a dog person, and isgetting to know about cats as I currently have two in residence; so she watches them a lot.

We were at the table the other evening, when the male cat started playing with a pencil, batting it around the floor. At one point, he shot it over to the female, who was watching from across the room. He's definitely the alpha of the two of them, and exerts hisdominance behaviors in ways she understands but at times are troubling to this uncomprehending human.

So we were both surprised when the little female started playing with the pencil as if he wasn't there. She rolled, she enjoyed it, she purred and chirped--the whole while he clearly wanted it back. She acted as though she wasn't aware he was there, although he edged closer and closer the whole while. When he was within paws' reach, she stopped, looked over at him, and rolled onto the pencil. Only one end stuck out. He was enrapt. He hungered forthat pencil, but for reasons I can only partially guess at, didn't take it away from her the way he usually does. She licked her paws casually, looked at him and yawned. A few moments later, she sauntered away to the food bowl, and began contentedly crunching.

The look on his face broke us both up. It was so clearly shocked, so "Hey! What happened to our game? Why'd you walk away?"... and he lost all interest in the pencil. Just stared at her over at the dish, while she had her back to him (something she rarely does). He moved closer and halfheartedly played with the pencil for a moment, and left the room. She came back and laid on the pencil and went to sleep.

Perhaps I should mention they were both neutered at about 7 months of age?

So a few days later, when my friend's estranged husband called and demanded a meeting she was dreading, I gave her a pencil to take with her.

Yeah, I'd say there's a lot I can learn from them.

Dear Gr8 -

Seriously???

Kids are better because:

1 - eat less? you obviously never met my dogs!

2 - they can earn their own money

3 - easier to train......refer back to #1.

4 - come when called....ok, you've got me there!

5 - my kids have their own cars!

6 - my kids don't smoke, and don't drink....much.

7 - one of my pets has her OWN clothes!

8 - if kids have #2 & #5, then they can purchase their own fashions.

9 - my kids, well........ 3/4 of them, have skipped college!

10 - maybe you could sell your pets' kids - but wouldn't it be more responsible to spay or neuter?

No, not my children....my PETS!!!

11 - Dogs and cats may give a lot of unconditional love, not talk back, and be great companions,

but somehow it just doesn't compare to a giant hug from one's offspring....or an endearing "I love you

mom". C :

They are the best, most devoted friends a person could ask for: our pets. Sure we love them, but what can we learn from them?
Don't hump a stranger's leg.
