If I had a million dollars? lol well if I had a million dollars...

If I had a million dollars (If I had a million dollars)
Well I’d buy you a house (I’d buy you a house)
And if I had a million dollars (If I had a million dollars)
I’d buy you furniture for your house (maybe a nice chesterfield or an ottoman)
And if I had a million dollars (If I had a million dollars)
Well I’d buy you a K-Car (a nice reliant automobile)
And if I had a million dollars, I’d buy your love

If I had a million dollars I’d build a tree-fort in our yard
If I had a million dollars you could help, it wouldn’t be that hard
If I had a million dollars maybe we could put a little tiny fridge in there somewhere.
“You know, we could just go up there and hang out.”
“Like open the fridge and stuff, and there’d all be foods laid out for us like little pre-wrapped sausages and things. They have pre-wrapped sausages but they don’t have pre-wrapped bacon.”
“Well can you blame them?”
“Yeah.”

If I had a million dollars (If I had a million dollars)
Well I’d buy you a fur coat (but not a real fur coat, that’s cruel)
And if I had a million dollars (If I had a million dollars)
Well I’d buy you an exotic pet (yep, like a llama or an emu)
And if I had a million dollars (If I had a million dollars)
Well I’d buy you John Merrick’s remains (all them crazy elephant bones)
And if I had a million dollars I’d buy your love

If I had a million dollars we wouldn’t have to walk to the store
If I had a million dollars we’d take a limousine ’cause it costs more
If I had a million dollars we wouldn’t have to eat Kraft dinner
“But we would eat Kraft dinner.”
“Of course we would, we’d just eat more.”
“And buy really expensive ketchups with it.”
“That’s right, all the fanciest Dijon ketchups.”

If I had a million dollars (If I had a million dollars)
Wel I’d buy you a green dress (but not a real green dress that’s cruel)
And if I had a million dollars (If I had a million dollars)
Well I’d buy you some art (A Picasso or a Garfunkel)
And if I had a million dollars (If I had a million dollars)
Well I’d buy you a monkey (haven’t you always wanted a monkey?!)
And if I had a million dollars I’d buy your love

If I had a million dollars; if I had a million dollars
If I had a million dollars; if I had a million dollars
If I had a million dollars… I’d be rich!

Awesome! I saw BNL in concert this summer, and they put on a great show!

On topic, my list is pretty much like everyone else's:

1. Pay off my house;
2. Establish trust funds for my kids.
3. Establish trust funds for my nephews.
4. Establish a charitable giving program.
5. Buy my ex-wife a house -- somewhere far, far away.
6. Save and invest the rest.

I'd probably replace my pickup truck with a newer used model -- mine's a 2000, and has been having some issues lately.

I would not quit my job, at least not in the short run. In the long run, I might look to use my law degree for good, not evil.

OK, something else to consider when you win. Your ex or possibly even current partner.

I worry that if I won my son's father would demand some part of the money as "child support". Do you think this would be a reasonable request from an ex you share a child with? Personally I don't.

I would offer to buy a house and possibly a vehicle for him so he didn't have to worry about rent and transportation. I would also be willing to cover taxes and everything so he wouldn't lose either due to property taxes and stuff.

I don't know how the law works on this. Do you have full time custody? Does he currently pay child support?

I mean, if you have shared custody and he currently makes more and pays you, if the situation reverses, doesn't it make sense for the payment to reverse as well? If you have full time custody, I don't see where anything changes.

My situation is probably not unique. I have full time custody. He rarely sees his father as it is. But, I could see something like this bringing out some interesting demands as well as "long lost" relatives.

That's the wonderful thing about waiting to go to the lottery officials to collect: you can meet with lawyers/accountants to get the scoop on these kinds of issues before anyone knows about your windfall. At the very least, you'd be one step ahead of any money-grubbing relatives.

I see nothing wrong with an increase in child support if I'm making 1 million per year, if I win the 200m powerball, or even if i just hit the one million state jackpot. I figure if my ex spouse does ok, then my daughter should too, but I'd make sure my girl had her own money, too.

Like Tipi said, it would be better to wait as long as you can and make sure your lawyers and finacial advisers can get all the ducks in a row before you collect, or even tell friends and family that you won.

I just thought of one other thing I would do if I were suddenly wealthy. I would buy any book I wanted to read as soon as it came out (E-book or hardcover). I wouldn't wait for it to come out as a paperback, or even to hit the used bookstore. That would be so wonderful. This thought was prompted by a visit to Barnes & Noble today, where I bought 2 books, but would have loved to have bought many more.

Andie, he could probably request a reduction of child support but he would NOT be entitled to a share of the winnings.
