I am puzzled.
I was having a conversation with my date last Sunday night, and she described herself as "curvy" twice in the conversation.

Here I am thinking: "You are 5'8", athletic, wider shoulders than hips, well developed lats, and a flat, firm stomach, and you think you are curvy?"

No, I was not stupid enough to verbalise this.

Yes, she has well developed breasts, and a shapely rear end.

However, does that make her curvy?

I always thought of curvy as being kinda soft, maybe a few extra pounds. I think online it is code name for overweight.

What do you think?

Would you call J-Lo overweight? Even kinda sorta overweight? She is curvy. So is Kim Kardashian.

Unfortunately, curvy, athletic, a few extra pounds, average, about average, etc, are all subjective terms.

I think most women with noticeable breasts think of themselves as curvy. If their rears are rounded that would seal the self-evaluation.

In my limited experience with online dating, this has indeed been the case.

However, reading your description of her (which, if I understood you correctly, is based off of personal observations from an actual date)... I'm thinking maybe she's one of those women who's obsessed with her weight and will always find herself "fat" regardless of how well in shape she is?

Unrelated note: Is it me, or should a woman's shoulders NOT, in fact, be wider than her hips? That'd look awfully masculine wouldn't it? Maybe I'm not picturing it right... I do very much enjoy the hourglass shaped bodies, is that perchance what you meant?

What do you think?

Did you have a nice evening?
Did you enjoy yourself?
I certainly hope so cause then I can say "Good for you tangochef! A nice evening out with a fine voluptuous lady!"

When she was popular I remember they said her shoulders were wider than her hips:

It's a euphemism for fat.

I had always described myself as 'curvy' in a very positive way; then I joined EHA, and learned that I was calling myself fat. But I am actually curvy - hourglass curves, waist disproportionately smaller than hips and bust. I don't even know how to self-identify these days. Curvy is overweight, average is actually a 14 so also overweight. yet I have too many curves to be slim. I am sure the OP's date feels the same way.

Size 14 is average? Awww man, I'm confused! I'm a size 6 and consider myself average. I also have shoulders wider than my
hips probably because I work out but I don't have six pack abs so I don't qualify as athletic either. What the heck? How's a girl supposed to know which body type box to check?

I wouldn't use pant size as a good measure. A size 14 on a 5'9" gal is probably average but on a 5'3" a size 14 is definetely overweight.

Someone like Red is always going to technically be curvy even if she were to drop significant weight. Bone structure doesn't change. Lucky gal...
