The only movie that made my husband (58 years old) cry was Cinema Paradisio, in the original Italian with sub-titles. It should be included in this list!! I was sobbing and I heard him sniffling. When I asked are you crying, he said in the Italian Macho way, NO!! I simply said, yes you are Admit it! And he said yes, just a little bit!! That was one of the greatest movies I've ever seen! A real tearjerker in the end.

Ok, I agree "Saving Private Ryan" and "Schindlers list" were both in the end a momentary tear in sympathy, but come on, Mystic River? who wrote that? If any real man crys to a kevin b. film they should really check to make sure they are a man. Watching him scream "is that my daughter over there?" has got to be one of the more sickining moments in his sad little career.

Okay, Plain and simple - Who is the ding dong who left out Black Hawk Down? Really? We were shown first hand in this true tale of our American Elite, that grit, bravery, and the ability to fight on to the Ranger objective though they be the lone survivor, is not just a thing from the WWII generation, but is alive and well in these young men today.

I was there as a member of the Special Forces, Det. D, infiltrating Aidid's networks and trying to break them down. If you did not cry during this movie, male or female, you are most likely some sort of serial killer or whack job - It's not just a movie, it's REAL LIFE.

Love actually. Give me a break.

What a great discussion. Reading over the comments brought back some great memories of movie fun and catharsis, and brought me a list of movies I have passed over 'til now. I'm a middle-aged level-headed woman, and not a sob sister by any means. But the most I've ever cried at one time - along with my own Mom - the coolest cat I ever met - was at the end of The Color Purple. Perhaps because we saw it together and the joy and pain of traditional and non-traditional family ties between men and woman hit us hard - those same tugs at the chest and throat I get now when I think about my Mom being gone. Some of the writers mentioned songs that get them - James Blunt's, Goodbye My Lover made me think about how brave my elderly Dad, now by himself after 51 years together, is for carrying on, trying to find the joy in life until he can be with Mom again. One of his great joys is Turner Classic Movies.
TO SUNDAY WRITER...FORGET THE MOVIES, YOUR COMMENT HAD ME IN TEARS.

My choice, ‘Far from Home: The Adventures of Yellow Dog’.

Okay, yep, I may be a big ol’ sap, but the last 20-mins. of the movie, ‘Far from Home: The Adventures of Yellow Dog’ makes tears well up in my eyes every time I watch it on TV.

Synopsis:  A boy and a dog lost in the British Columbia wilderness, forced to fend for themselves and make their way back to the safety of home.  The rescue scene where the boy is lifted to safety by copter as he and the dog are standing atop a felled Sequoia, high above a rushing river is where the waterworks start to flow.  Left behind due to high winds, the dog barks incessantly while perched atop the fallen redwood as the copter flies away leaving the dog to fend for survival alone.

The eventual reunion many days later as the dog finds his own way home through the wilds of the BC wilderness in the final scene is where I totally lose it.

The boy is standing outside in a field near his home, blowing his dog whistle, (as he has faithfully done for many days since his rescue), hoping that ‘Yellow’ the dog will hear the whistle and find his way home.

Battered, bruised, and physically beaten down while battling all on his own through the wilds of the BC wilderness, one day Yellow suddenly appears from out of the forest and with a slight limp, starts to slowly trot across the field, barking with elation, as he makes his way towards the boy.

Cue tears welling up and a slight choking lump in the throat as the boy and dog are finally reunited are the ultimate boy meets dog, boy loses dog, boy and dog are eventually reunited movie ever!

When I was a young child I saw the Eddie Duchin Story with Tyrone Power.  I have not seen it in over 50 years, but I believe that I would cry like a baby again.  Has anyone else seen this movie?

I don't like to watch sad movies, so I avoid them. Why would I want to watch a movie that makes me cry? Even though I avoid them, I've still come across sad movies and haven't shed a tear. I'm just not a movie crier. There are only 2 movies that are worth mentioning to me (even if I didn't cry during them).

Dangerous Minds (1995)- The movie is basically about a teacher who tries to reform a bunch of delinquents at a high school in the inner city. It's a very cheesy movie and low budget, but the climax is heartbreaking. We find out that a student was shot and killed because he "forgot to knock on the principal's office". The student's death wasn't shown, but Ms. Johnson broke the news to her class that he was dead. It was just so sad!! Not to mention the fact that it didn't happen in the book (which I read first), which makes it more surprising.
Pixar's Up (2009)- For an animated Pixar movie, it sure is packed with lots of emotion! You don't believe me? See for yourself. Just because a movie is animated doesn't mean that it's always going to have singing and dancing animals! I won't spoil anything for you, but it's really sad. It's actually kind of depressing. Even though it has plenty of funny moments.
