ah, things change so very fast in the dating world. was supposed to see last night the guy that cancelled our date last saturday night because he had construction work ongoing in his out-of-town office, but who then called me each of the next two days and made new plans to see me last night. many people here were skeptical. and with good reason as it turns out.

in the meantime, I met someone else for dinner on monday night. wasn't into him.

and I met someone else for lunch on tuesday. liked him and would like to go out again but he hasn't asked me out, just has texted a few times.

and then another guy, one I went out with last year one time for a lovely dinner date, resurfaced online and we started talking and he asked me out for the weekend. I was only free on Sunday, so I told him so and we set a date. (the only reason we didn't go out again last year was because he lived 75 miles away and we tried to schedule a date, but we both had conflicts with schedules, and had to cancel, and then it just kinda petered out as things do online. but now he's just moved to my town and lives 5 miles away!)

but back to the dude who cancelled on me last Saturday night. I had a weird feeling about things after he didn't call me on Thursday night to get directions to my house and to chat, as we'd planned earlier in the day. He texted me on Friday tho, and everything seemed normal. But he didn't reference our date, or why he didn't call on Thursday night.

Then, yesterday, the day of the date, he texted me for the first time around 1 p.m. Said he'd hung out at home the night before. I said, "for tonight, since it's super hot outside, why don't we see a movie at the theater instead of being outdoors like we'd planned?"

an hour later he responded. said he had been feeling sick for three days, dehydration maybe from the heat and playing too much basketball. and that it'd been a long time since he'd seen a movie. I thought, oh, geez, here we go again. but I said to him that I was sorry he was sick, and to let me know if he wanted to reschedule the date.

he didn't respond.

then a couple of hours later, I still hadn't heard from him, so I contacted the Sunday night date guy and told him I found myself now free, so we could go out last night. He was thrilled.

A half hour later, cancellation guy texts me and says he'd taken a long nap, feeling a little better. I responded and said that was great, glad to hear it. At that point if he'd asked about our date, I'd have told him I made other plans when he seemed to be cancelling.

But you know what? He never asked about our planned date! That was the last I heard from him. Wowza. Just poofed.

Doesn't matter tho - the guy I did go out with was an AWESOME date. just awesome. Took me to a fantastic place for dinner, took me to the roof of a parking garage to look at city lights afterward, and he'd put a cooler with a bottle of really great wine in his car, with wine glasses, so we stood in the night breeze, talking and admiring the view and sipping on that incredible wine. then we went back to my house and finished the bottle while we sat on my couch and talked until 5 a.m. Yes, 5 a.m.

What an awesome date and an awesome guy.

Just goes to show that when one thing goes wrong, something else good can so easily happen.

and also was reminded why, sometimes, 45-year-old, handsome, successful men are single and never married for a reason. cause they're flakes.

but boy, I do love dating and life and the good things that do happen when you just stay open to possibilities.
