Does it annoy you when someone complains about his/her relationship woes? Do you get perturbed when someone "B&Ms" over someone doing them dirty or not receiving attention from prospective matches/dates the way he/she would like?

If so, does that make you insensitive towards someone elses pain and anguish?

I loved your response to the cheating post. I was so torn up by the pain he expressed and the horror of the story that I couldn't figure out how to say much of anything at all. Sometimes this site just makes me cry.

Sometimes, if I'm in a bad mood to begin with; but in that case, I just take a break from reading the threads.

It only gripes me when the same person does the same maladaptive/self-destructive stuff over and over, without heeding the advice he/she gets here. Then it bothers me.

I tend to feel frustrated when I really can't spare the time 'right then' to listen to my friend, or what I am hearing is highly repetitive with no attempt to try and address any of the woes with the partner.

There have been times when I'm dealing with my own issues or on a really tight deadline, where I have found myself avoiding certain people. I don't like that I do this sometimes, I think it is not very nice behaviour on my part. I have tried to approach it differently with something like 'I want to hear you out, can we meet at xyz time and chat over a cuppa?' This doesn't work well so far, I think it may be because my friend needs to unload there and then and I'm not available for that conversation to occur.

I also don't like that I am times, I am the whinging party.

No. I generally empathize or sympathize with them. Sometimes I wish I could offer a vitual hug. Why would it annoy me?

Generally, no. I am sympathetic, and I'm a good listener (which is often all they want, is someone to listen).

However, when they are in a particularly good relationship and keep griping about something minor... and I'm not in a relationship at all... it's kind of hard to sympathize. They'd better thank their lucky stars rather than "B&M" about something that is otherwise wonderful.

I agree and I also agree with the post that it can be annoying when the person seems to be argumentative with all the advice they have received. It's almost like they want help but pushes it away.

on eHA or in life in general?

We all go through our ups and downs and sometimes it helps to get it off your chest, vent, or get an outside viewpoint. I am a good listener and do this quite a bit for folks.

The thing that bothers me are the folks who never seem have anything go well for them or always find fault or the bad side in things. Those people annoy me. They also seem to be the ones who will stand in a dark room and complain about it being dark but never reach out and turn on the light. I lose patience for those folks pretty quickly.

IRL it doesn't happen that people whine and cry to me. I surround myself with the "other" kind...the positive ones that suck it up and make the best of whatever situation they have.

Here on eHA I can get perturbed if somebody starts a thread...asks for advice...and then proceeds to ignore it all. Or worse yet...argues with those who offer the advice they asked for.

You just have to laugh and shake your head, sometimes.
