July 4th is considered to be this nation's birthday. It's a strong symbol of patriotism. Colonist with the help of the French defeated the British army.

However, some people do not celebrate this holiday. Not everyone in America was given freedom on this day. Blacks were still slaves. Women had very few rights. Europeans coming to American in the early 1900s were segregated in the North. Indians had little rights, and President Andrew Jackson is responsible of the deaths of many Indians. Poor people did not have the right to vote in America at this time in American history, only landowners could vote.

An interesting fact about the Independence War is that only 30% of the colonist population was for the war.

Would you date someone would dislikes July 4th? Are you married to someone who dislikes the holiday?

I would not date someone who was so hung up on injustices done to their ancestors of many generations back. If you go back far enough, pretty much every one of us can find some sort of past injustice to be indignant about. What really matters is how are you living life in the present, what are your hopes, dreams and goals for the future, and what are you doing to make the present and future a better place to live?

We live in a great country. No country is perfect, but we at least strive to be a "more perfect union." If someone is a killjoy on the 4th of July, they are probably a killjoy in many other areas of their lives.

No. As much as we celebrate independence from England, it's also time to remember those that sacrificed all for it. Tomorrow when you wave your flag, eat your burgers, watch fireworks, just remember there are 10 little acts attached to the Constitution that gave you the right to do what you do and a lot of people have given their lives through several wars to get and preserve those rights.

If someone hates Independence Day and what it stands for, there are other places they can go live.

A number of my (fellow American) friends aren't all that pleased with their country right now and haven't been in many years. A couple of them even have their own reasons for not wanting to celebrate the 4th and they are not any of the ones on your list. I have no problem with that; they laid out their arguments logically. I would not necessarily hold that against a man who wanted to date me. It would depend upon his reasons for not wanting to celebrate Independence Day.

I think the reasons that are listed anger some people because the 4th does not recognize the other great moments that gave groups of people freedoms.

What other holiday involves alcohol and launching chemical laden objects into the sky? What's not to love? Alcohol/explosives, explosives/alcohol. In this fine country you do not have to chose. Just came in a couple of hours ago from one party complete with potato launcher and soon off to another beginning at midnight. Why for the luvagod would you not love The Fourth?
