Women: How many of you have that little black dress in your closet that is supposed to be a staple of every woman's wardrobe? If you have it, how often do you wear it and to what type of events? If not, why not? I saw one online that I love, and just ordered it, but am wondering how often I'll use it, and when. I am dating someone and want to dress up for him sometime, what would be a good appropriate date to wear a little black dress to?

I have often wondered about who really has this LBD just sitting in their closet, "just in case". I usually buy a new dress if I need one, like if I am going to a wedding or some other dressy function. I have been tempted a couple of times to buy a dress just because it was on sale for a great price, but then thought, really, even at this price, it's just a waste if it sits in my closet.

The guys that I date usually don't have occasion to dress up, unless it's for a wedding or such. I have never just "gone to dinner" at one of those places where you'd actually need a LBD just to be dressed appropriately, where you couldn't just wear a nice everyday dress like you might wear to work. I certainly don't go to the Opera or anyplace like that.

I have 4 LBD's - sleeveless, off the shoulder, cap sleeve, and 3/4 sleeve. I wear them quite a bit! Cocktail parties, dinner dates, out dancing, etc. If I see a new one at a good price, I buy it, even if I don't have an occasion in mind.

I am over 50 :-), love to dress up, and generally date men who are 55+ and always in suits. That may be a factor. LOL!

I have an LBD and a lot of other fun dresses to wear out at night or during the day, or to work. I love dresses. probably have about 40-50 if you count all the seasons. so yeah, have more than one LBD. but honestly opt for colors more than black on nights out. or a cute skirt and top.

I have two. I wear them quite a bit, as I have a lot of 'functions' related to my job. They are totally different stylistically, and I adore both of them.

I have one LBD that I mainly wear at work events. I wore the LBD only once on a date and it ended up being a date from hell... not the poor LBD's fault!

Ladies, please be merciful to us when you wear the LBD...as it's power is uncanny..and we can't be held responsible for what we say nor what we do!

I have three but have only worn each one once. I have loaned them out to friends/family so they get more wear. lol!

One of my friends has a good formula for purchasing clothes. She will take the cost of the item and divide it by the number of wears and figure out if the cost per wear is worth it. Just wanted to pass on that tidbit in case it helps at all.

Now we want to see pics of your dress!

I have a a few....I kinda like to get a new one each year! Mine are more for cocktail/party/vacation use. Occasionally date use if we are passed the 'getting to know each other' stage.

My lbd's are generally not work appropriate
