I just posted a thread about bitterness and I think I gave it a bad rap.

When some evil soul, that you thought you loved, punches through your ribs and rips out your still beating heart before grinding it into the dirt with their unfeeling heel then bitterness is a necessary step in the healing process. Angry and hurt, if exorcised properly, is a stage that allows us to carry less baggage into the future.

So powerful is this (hopefully) temporary recovery stage that it has inspired many to put pen to paper and pour out their hurt. They've done it for us, to help us dwell and fester a while, before we pick ourselves up and limp through love's sick bay till we're well enough to get back out there. This thread is to honor bitter inspired art in all it's forms; songs, plays, novels and true life reflection.

I'll kick you off with a couple.

I love this song (Love to a Monster) by Okkervil River who can't relate to feeling like 'fighting off the spring, I don't want lovely things, I don't want the Earth new'
YouTube - Okkervil River - Love to a monster

and musically I'm not really a fan of Alanis Morrisette but I've got to hand it to her for the amount of bile she manages to convey in You Oughta Know, she must have felt so much better after spitting that out.
YouTube - You Oughta Know

Bitterness to make us better........

over to you.

What's that Joan Jett song title ... chorus goes I hate myself for loving you, can't break free from the things that you do, I wanta run but I crawl back to you, that's why I hate myself for loving you.

That's a good one for blowing off steam.

But when I am mad and have a bad case of the "bitters" as you describe it ... I usually like to sing/hear the not bitter songs lol.

Like her other one, I love rock and roll!

Gotta agree with Trixie - You Outta Know is probably the best.

Some other songs I like when I'm feeling bitter - Too Little Too Late by JoJo; Before He Cheats by Carrie Underwood; and for some reason U + Ur Hand by Pink.

My longtime favourite artists, Neko Case, has a whole 'bitter' repertoire. She's seen me through my darkest hours.

YouTube - Twist The Knife, by Neko Case.

YouTube - Neko Case - Set Out Running

YouTube - Neko Case_Running out of Fools_Crocodile Cafe_2000

YouTube - neko case song "If You Knew"?

YouTube - Neko Case - Hex (w/ Lyrics)

She's just fantastic. Makes me feel like my negativity is down to some wild and creative force within me ~ rather than some ordinary bitter jaded thing.

cholesterol to f*&% 'em all.

Work with me on this.

Now post songs / poems / films / novels that deal with bitterness and don't go changing no stinking vowels or consonants.
