From the anorexic fashion models to the airbrush/photoshop faces and taped up body parts, the media has been blamed for their portrayal of women, creating a standard that many can never measure up to. But women try anyway.

But the consensus here seem to be that women prefer guys with hairy chests even though the media presents smooth. Why haven't women been influenced by the media and Hollywood?

Because we know what a pain it is to try and measure up to unrealistic expectations, and we love you men too much to put you through that hell.

Perhaps the majority of women on these boards don't fall into the key demographic for that kind of advertising? (Young, hairless, bare-chested guys might be targeted to a younger or more pop-culture-obsessed group or something?)

Personally, I prefer smooth chests, so I guess I can't say!

Maybe this sort of selflessness is what makes so many women move to the other side of the street when they see me coming, too?

I never realized their reasoning was so philanthropic.

For quite a number of years now, I've noticed the fashion industry and the fashion media promoting styles and images that subtly feminize men and masculinize women. Some people seem to like the "edginess" of it. Not really my cup of tea, though.

I think this is because women tend to focus on women and then try to improve what we have to fit the 'model'.

At times I care that I'll never measure up to the ideal of feminine perfection; mostly I'm too busy living my life and enjoying it (for the most part!) to give much weight to media and Hollywood.

BTW - good to see you back, been awhile since I saw you post last.

Yup.

If I'm going to do anything with my appearance, I'm going to do it for me first.
