I like getting into quantitative v qualitative traits. How do both of these create the unique person that is you. I argue that what you look like on paper does not represent the person you are. So tell me what do you look like on paper?

Pick any trait you find appealing or positive about yourself. Now tear it down to the quantitative state. So say your intellect is a favored trait. You could quantify that with your IQ, level of education, number or types of books read. Quantitative traits must be something you can count, touch, feel, sort.

I am hoping this is left in dating. See this is a two for. First you have to look at who you are and then define it on paper. (self-understanding) Second as you read what others have posted you will gain a greater understanding of how others see themselves and interact.

If I am correct and people play along my hope is we can have a new view on the dating game.

I consider my sense of humor a big deal. Funny that, the only way I can quantify it is 96% of people within earshot laugh at my jokes. One could argue that 20 to 30% of these people may be laughing at me.

Can everything really be quantified? If humor is one of my traits then do I list how funny I can be and how many jokes and humorous stories I tell in a day? Some things just can't be quantified and those things that you might be able to quantify still can't give you the person.

Quantification in theory can only be done by meeting the person in person. Then you can judge for yourself how funny, how intelligent, how cute, and etc.

So does this post ring me up as negative?

I am funny, fun and adventurous... how do you qualify/quantify? I say this not as a means to prove to x guy that I really am this way... but it is demonstrated through action and reaction. I don't think you have to qualify and/or quantify if the proof is in the pudding... right?

Ok ok, I'll play.

Off the top of my head, I'd say that any dating website profile is really just what we consider ourselves to be in two-dimensions or "on paper". I suppose once you meet with someone you do get the more rounded three-dimensional look at them where you can measure--quantitatively-- (figuratively, of course, not with an actual tape measure as a date would probably run screaming for the hills!) their qualitative traits.

I think I just broke my brain writing quantitatively and qualitative. Qualiquani-wha?

This is exactly the point of this thread. Only traits that can be quantified can be verified on paper. I was trying to get people to think about what they think they see on paper. It is easy to look at another person and say well this means this and what if they lied about this or that. It is not so easy to do to yourself because you have the answers.

Just me trying to make people think again. I am hoping to train everyone to do it naturally.

You type with your brain? Impressive. You should include that in your profile.

Correct, so then why do we try to figure out qualitative information strictly from a profile?

...because there are plenty of quantitative measures that correlate with qualitative features. Though they can definitely be misused, they can also provide valuable information.

Quantitative information does not tell you everything you need to know about a match and does not tell you nothing about a match.

I have to type with my brain--my hands are usually on a woman's quantitative traits. Alright that was soooo bad!

We try to figure out qualitative information from a profile because it's all we have to go on until we meet up with our matches for Scrabble and snuggles!
