So I've added a second video to my profile. With new batteries and little bit more experience I can play the first solo of Wish You Were Here ok. Like I say in the video, I'm not a perfectionist. While I will continue to play the song, I will move onto other songs!!! Next stop, tackling the Beatles!!!

Also, this video is not as cool as the first one in terms of the lighting. I took it this morning during the day and well you don't want to see my ugly mug anyway

Pink Floyd? (I generally don't remember song titles, but will remember bits of music to different bands/artists.) I love the guitar ... and the piano.

You do have quite the deep voice! But you don't sing?

Hey Meri, thanks for the compliment about my voice--I feel much more manly now with my deep voice No, I cannot hold a tune to save my life. I've actually video taped myself singing and posted it on Facebook and all my friends agree I'm horrible. However, I am going to take voice lessons in the fall. Part of it, is that I know absolutely nothing about singing. I wouldn't even know where to begin to try to sing. I have no idea of terms like range or the like. I would take private voice lessons, but I figure I'm such a beginner it would be a futile effort.

One of my friends suggested I buy Rock Band Beatles and sing to it because it measures how accurate your voice is relative to the actual song. I might do that in the near future.

Can you sing Meri? I really envy people with a singing voice, because that for the most part is raw talent! I know I have zero talent when it comes to voice so I'm just hoping to be able to sing Karaoke, no American Idle for Me

I think your range will be bass. I'm alto. I sing, a little. Not anywhere near as well as I'd like and I don't sing solos. Too shy! I also (used) to play the piano and the guitar, but I am very un-practiced now and need to take lessons to get back in shape. I loved playing the piano, I miss it. I found it cathartic. I would need to buy/rent a piano before I can even think about lessons; and well, you already know about my woeful budget experience from your group! Ha ha!

Rather than thinking of yourself with zero talent, try thinking of your voice as an instrument which is currently un-practiced and not in tune. I think the voice lessons are a brilliant idea. It may also depend upon the type of singing ... for example, I am usually more effective singing the harmony. Often, if I'm singing along to a female artist on the radio, I usually sing a little lower than she does ... except for people like Anastasia. Her voice is quite a low alto.

I don't think voice lessons will help if you can't carry a tune at all. They are more for those who can sing but want to improve.

I also don't see how posting a video of yourself singing poorly is going to help you get dates, unless it's for comedy value.

Thanks Mr. Flyer, but I don't plan on getting dates from my FB friends and I'm not going to post a video of me singing here.

Voice lessons, from what I have heard can get you to a point where you can sing at your potential. But again, that is all I know.

Unless a person is completely tone deaf, they can learn to sing. I say take the lessons and see what happens. It never hurts to try.

Well, I like your voice when you're speaking.

I can't carry a tune either, so I wouldn't hold that against a person.....unless they insisted on singing!

I sing now, and I've played a few intruments in the past as well. Learning to stay on pitch may or may not be something you can do, but you'll never know until you try. Quite a few people I've performed with thought they had had perfect pitch but... um...

I would suggest taking a beginning choral class at a community college. Low time and money investment, and some of the teachers are better than what you would expect. A lot of them do it because they love it, especially in the night classes.

The thing is, you never know what you can accomplish until you try. And once you get pitch down, the rest is a piece of cake.
