I mean there seem to be a couple of Facebook types. There is the "my life is the greatest in the world" type, the "my marriage, relationship is the greatest in the world," type, "the I'm wisest and most observant person in the world," type. I find all these people taking themselves too seriously. Is anyone else annoyed by this? Can you identify other types?

meh, I haven't noticed those kind of trends...just a few people that think everyone is really interested in everything that happens to them....maybe you're taking others' facebook statuses too seriously?

I have a couple of FB "friends" (former coworkers, bosses, etc.) who use the site for purposes like the ones you cite. One of my 'favorites' is a man who goes to a lot of fundraisers and can't help but name-drop about the celebrities he talked with the night before. I'm sure the celebrities, if they remembered the conversation at all, would probably say, "oh, you mean that short, bald guy who wouldn't shut up?" (Nothing against short, bald guys -- just the obnoxious ones.) When I get sick of his bragging, I just block his posts from my page. Otherwise, I just laugh them off as a sign of his insecurity.

Fortunately, most of my FB friends are pretty humorous and use their updates to make silly observations. Some of the parents are a little braggy about their kids, but I usually shrug them off.

hmmm....although I have 2 friends who use FB to promote their political beliefs (which are the complete opposite of my beliefs), most of my friends are pretty reasonable about their use of FB. I genuinely like it; it is truly an efficient way to keep up with people in a non-intrusive way.

Yes, the Hollywood "I'm so blessed" false modesty line.

The ones who have way too much time on their hands and do every test, play every game, and have a virtual garden - go outside and plant some seeds in a real garden.

I'm totally with you there -- I have never played any of the FB games, and I hide them all from my Newsfeed. They are definitely a complete waste of time.

I rarely take the status's seriously. Half the time they're random quotes from the Simpsons, haha.

Certain businesses almost "require" you to have a Facebook account and keep it updated. I was encouraged by my last boss to get my FB up and running and make tons of friends and use it use it use it!

I do post personal things on there now. It is definitely the "in" thing compared to MySpace.

I hate most of the questionnaires and games so I block most of them. But sometimes I get bored and play a bit.

Unless they are posting each and every time they use the restroom, don't worry about it.

I have one FB friend whose life is constantly amazing. Me thinks she doth protest too much ...

I have a few who seem addicted to random games like Farmville.

By and large most of them just tell a little about their day, and those are the ones I enjoy the most. I also like seeing links to articles people read that they especially liked, and the discussions about the articles are kind of interesting sometimes.

I log in about once a day, post a new status update, check everyone else's status and leave. lol
