So, a recent thread with nightling made me wonder what the personality types of some of the regulars here were. For those of you unfamiliar with Myers-Briggs, it's a personality classification scheme that describes people by four attributes: (I)ntroversion/(E)xtroversion, (S)ensing/I(N)tuition, (T)hinking/(F)eeling, and (J)udging/(P)erceiving.

Here are a couple of short online tests:

So anyway, let us know what you are. Do you think it describes you well?

Personally, I'm an INTP. Definitely a very analytical type and a stickler for accurate logic and word usage, which means that forum discussion can't drive me nuts when someone is playing fast and loose with important terms

I'm definitely introverted, but a social introvert...I like spending time with people, large social events and very draining.

By far my strongest trait is perceiving. I've never met a deadline that I didn't try to stretch (or at a minimum I always procrastinate as long as possible), my desk is loosely organized chaos, and I'm always up for spur of the moment adventures.

Well that was interesting. According to this test I am an ESFP which is pretty accurate. I am very optimistic, outgoing and am not the most logical person in the world. It must be the laid-back attitude of California that was instilled in me from a young age.

I haven't had it run yet. Now I remember why I considered this carp.
You believe the best decision is one that can be easily changed-does this mean are you someone who likes to change their mind or is it a question of whether or not you are dogmatic?

You prefer to act immediately rather than speculate
about various options - I can immediately speculate on various options how am I to answer this?

You trust reason rather than feelings - I trust only reason that does not conflict with my feelings again how do I answer this?

You usually plan your actions in advance - yes but not by choice but because of scheduling answer?

You know how to put every minute of your
time to good purpose-see above question.....

The more people with whom you speak, the better you feel - if they have something to offer to the conversation yes, stoopid they drive me nuts???

Okay bored with this so I ran it. INTJ with thinking being a 1. Yeah I think it my sleep, I think all the time, all I ever do is think. Stoopid test!

I don't mean this against you guys that love it. It is just a stoopid test for someone like me. Just look at how I view the few questions I posted.

Have fun guys, really.

INFP here. I took a long 150+ question personality test about 2 years ago. The scaling was as such... you could be 100 points into "Introversion" or 100 points into "Extroversion" and so on with the other traits as well. I ended up being 98-99 on all of my traits decisively being INFP. What startled me a week later was how the printout that the teacher gave me in about 1 1/4 pages described me PERFECTLY the good and bad. It may seem strange but someone knowing more about me than I did just seemed kind of frightening.

Actually, you're reacting to ambiguities in the questions exactly the way I'd expect an INTJ to

The free online tests aren't as good as the official ones (which are longer and cost money), but they're usually ballpark accurate. Not every question is perfect, which is why they ask lots of question to get an overall calibration. From my interactions with you on these boards, that result actually seems pretty fitting

My psych prof tried the longer one on me and got frustrated. I was ooohhh I want this personality trait so no or maybe.....I am a pain in the butt to psychologists. Love them(psychologists) but those test are a game to me.

AAAHHHHH you don't think! *snicker*

Okay I am leaving this poor thread alone. I know a lot of people take this very serious and I shouldn't be joking.

Nah, it's not serious, but it can be illuminating. Just because you don't like taking personality tests doesn't mean that they don't have insights to offer. Very few tests are accurate for someone who is hostile to the idea of being measured.

It's also important to understand what the types mean. They're best understood as describing what is "home base" for you. Being a thinker doesn't mean you don't feel and vice versa, it just means that you're more comfortable operating out of that mode of decision making. Being an introvert doesn't mean that you don't like people, but that you draw energy from alone time rather than from being in a crowd. On top of that, people express traits to different extents...more involved tests will generally express how strongly a person trends towards one trait or another.
