Be honest with me, do I need to lose some pounds? I may put up a pick if you guys want to see if I have a belly. Here is my height and weight: 5'10 and 205lbs. Am I fat? Be honest, call my porky, whatever.

According to an online fitness site, I should weigh around 175 but to me that seems rather unrealistic. I think I would be comfortable at 190.

So, am I a fat guy? Don't worry you won't hurt my feelings.

I think that totally depends on how you carry it. My late husband was 5'10" and weighed 165-175 depending on whether it was bicycling season or not, but he was built very lean. I dated a guy who was 5'10" and 135. That was far too skinny. I would guess that 205 is more like teddy bear sized which to me is not fat, especially if you are at all muscular. I would rather have a little extra than not enough.

Well, I think I'm about as fat as you at 6'-1+" and 215lbs. if it makes you feel any better.

No, I don't think you're fat.

The important question is - do YOU think you're fat? When I saw myself this way it had an effect on the way I thought and behaved.

Depends on your general fitness, muscle mass, etc. Some people are just built along more burly or stocky lines, but aren't at all overweight - I'm thinking of my Scottish grandfather, very compactly built and muscular, and probably about 185 and 5'7". Then there's my Italian Papa, all of 5'4" and very stocky, very powerful. He didn't look "round" until he was in his 70's.

If it's all in your belly, then you probably do look a bit overweight, but some gals like that (more to hug). I like a guy with a little softness in the waist, myself, as it's more comforting to hold.

As someone else said, it's mostly about your own comfort with your body. If you're in good health and don't get out of breath climbing stairs, then you're fine.

Why is it important to you what we think?

The people that see you everyday could probably answer this question more accurately...

Oh hey Suzy Blue Eyes, my brother-in-law is a hardcore cyclist! I think, but I'm not sure, he rides twice a week and each time he rides about sixty to eighty miles--I'm not exactly sure if that is correct. He is my height and I believe weights around 165-175--he is very lean! But that size looks good on him.

Thanks for the reply!

Tweet, I appreciate that, but you are at east three inches taller than I am and that makes a big difference. While I imagine you look rather lean, I look kind of stocky. I think were I 190 than we would have a proportional build. So, I'm going to aim for 190.

Thanks for the reply. Nah, I know I'm not out of control heavy or unattractive heavy but still I could always look better. The way I see it I'm satisfied with my weight as it is, no more, but I can strive to weigh less.

Thanks for the reply! To be honest, in my early twenties I packed the pounds because I was a hardcore weight lifter. Then as I began to work I sort of let myself go. Muscle does not turn into fat, but what happens is that you are so used to eating a certain amount that, well when you are no longer working out as much you begin to gain weight.

So, I don't have I belly--I believe--and I do have upper body strength--I go the gym sporadically and can bench 225, which is pretty good for not lifting so much anymore.

Now the climbing stairs is another matter. I am totally winded when I climb stairs. However, that is because I'm a smoker unfortunately. Everyone, I mean everyone--family, friends, acquaintances, strangers--all hound me to quit. I haven't been smoking for long, maybe four years now. I think I will quit this year.
