The term is generally used by other women in a context so as to frame a negative connotation about those women who dare to not be overweight.

Lets not be disingenuous about this its meant as a slur and its rude.

I thought Barbie implied blond and in proportions that are not realistic, like a very large chest paired with very tiny arms and legs.

Well I don't think the term "Barbie" is going away ever so relax. When I hear the term "Barbie" I think of someone who is supposed to be perfect in the looks department - not necessarily "blond and skinny" - but perfect face, perfect figure...and nobody really cares what's going on in the brains department or if anything is going on in the brains department.

will trade cheesecake for this

and to address the topic, barbie is no more a slur than geek, nerd, jock, granny, player, gold-digger, book worm, fashionista, frog and other forms of pigeonholing (sorry NYC pigeon). When the word is used, a specific type of person (or form of cooking) comes to mind.

Lets not take the PC thing any further that it's already gone.
