I've been told by many people that I look like I"m in my 40's. I think this also affects my dating life too. A girl stopped talking to me once cause I sounded too old over the phone.

I'm only 26, but ever since I was in my mid teens people have assumed I was over 35. I've changed my looks like a new haircut, lost weight, everything short of plastic surgery. But people still think I'm like 45. I actually had to show my drivers license to a girl I met once to prove I was 25 at the time.

I have been a hit with a lot of middle aged, not there is anything wrong with middle aged women, but I'd like a girl around my age at least. I don't know what else to do.

How do you dress? Are you 'corporate' all the time?

If so, you might want to invest in some more trendy, youthful styles. I realize mens clothing is pretty basic, and you have my sympathy in that-but you can check out some hip stores and get a few things that say Not Middle Aged.

Also, make sure your clothes fit well, aren't sloppy. No pleated pants, something besides t-shirts, good fitting jeans....like that.

I live in total laid back-ville and am always impressed when a man shows some spunk in his apparel choices. Do you have a fashion forward friend? If so ask them where they shop-or take them with you and invest in just one outfit (do men have outfits?) for going out on the town.

It sounds like you have just gotten women who are stuck on sterotypes. I understand woman are going to be a little unsure and have heard stories of older men passing as younger men.

This sis something when you are about to talk or meet just tell them about some of these silly stories and be upfront and tell them you will show them your id to prove it. I think many will get passed those issues.

Did you deliberately mess up the thread title so you'd sound old and doddery? Cos that's cheating, that's bound to make us answer yes.

People are getting the impression you are middle-aged because of how you look, how you behave, and how you talk.

Like Roxy said, you should dress like a young man. Doesn't mean you shop at Abercrombie and Fitch, but you could check out the Gap or Target and pull out some graphic T-shirts and V-neck sweaters, maybe a decent pair of black boots or sneakers and a leather bomber jacket.

Do you walk with energy, or do you slump forward like you sit in front of a computer all day? Do you hang back in the crowd?

When you talk, are you knowledgeable about the latest movies, tv shows, sports, current events? Are you interested in the same subjects other 20-something guys are into? Do you express an opinion? Do you have one?

It seems the sum of all your efforts is equating to an impression that you're middle-aged. You may need to refocus your self-improvement strategy to gain a younger self-image.

A lot of people think that I'm in my early 30's. I let them keep thinking that.

My SO showed some of her co-workers my picture. One of the guys called her a cougar. I'm 3 years older than her. I told her to thank the guy for me.

I told this young woman that this guy I had dated was interested in having kids, and I said it was pretty unlikely that it would happen with me. She looked at me and innocently asked, "Why not?"

(... Seeing as how I could have been as old as her mother, I gave myself a high five! )

Nope, I dress casually. I've even had a couple of friends do over my wardrobe. I always try to look neat every time I go out too.

I did but I stopped taking her advice since every time I did, I always regretted it. My friends also never agreed on what looked good on me.
