After reading so much stuff about guys "poofing", and people saying that most of their dates with people have led nowhere long term, I'm starting to doubt myself.

It's hard for me to be happy about this guy I'm dating when everyone has such bad stories to tell; it makes me think, "well what makes me and this guy different"?

I don't know, I guess I'm just a person that worries/thinks too much. But after reading so many posts here, I'm just feeling pretty uncomfortable.

I recommend not listening to people who have been here awhile.

Instead, enjoy your partner and use us for humor!

Andrea, Keep in mind that more people who are still searching or are unhappy in their relationships are likely to come to a forum like this than are people who are happy in their relationship and don't have any doubts about it.

There are lots of happily dating people out there... in relationships leading to marriage or long term commitment, they're just not the ones posting on this board (with a few notable exceptions).

Horrors! I agree with a Frog...I hate when that happens!

You're a unique individual. Don't judge your own life by what happens with anybody else. Chances are, they're not using your experiences as a base for their own.

You've only got the one life to live. Better get comfortable with it.

Andrea8823, don't ever let somebody tell you that you can't do something or determine how you feel about things. I think it's fine that you are on here and have questions about different things. But at the end of the day, none of us on these forums are with you and your dates. We can't tell you what to do; all we can do is offer opinions and suggestions. It's up to YOU what you want to and what you decide. We are not your parents, so hopefully you're not looking at us in that way. You are your own person.

Yeah I guess if it makes it difficult to keep things in perspective then I would stop reading these boards.

I have been reading a marriage/relationship message board and it makes me think that getting married would not be worth it. I'm not really doubting myself in that, just the integrity of most people. Sad.

I like to quote Christian Slater in Pump Up The Volume at times like this... "If i knew anything about love i'd be out there making it instead of sitting here talking about it."

I think I would stop judging your own relationship on how other relationships end. Obviously you have something to offer or he wouldn't be with you. Same goes for him. It's unfair though to him especially to allow your relationship be dictated by outside sources.

Get out of your head and enjoy your time together.

Some things work, some don't. People who have doubts post on here. If you don't have doubts then you can read them and be happy you are not going through that! When it is easy, there are no questions to analyze. In general I think if you are starting to break every detail down you are doomed. Happy couples don't do that...

Like with anything in life...moderation is the key. The forums at times are like the debriding process of a burn victim. It's not pretty but necessary if you want to allow the remaining healthy part of your psyche to heal. Although there are benefits to sitting on Frued's couch most of your time should be seeking out positive experiences with your family, friend's, neighbors, and community. Balance keeps your heart alive, your spirit from becoming jaded and hopefully your mind well grounded in reality.
