Title is pretty self-explanatory! I know there are some animal-lovers out there, so share a bit about your pets (photos would be great too!) Feel free to share about pets that are no longer with us. The love we have for them never goes away!

I think it would be interesting to share why you have pets as well. What do you get out of being a pet-owner?

I am a proud owner of a West Highland White Terrier (think Ceasar dog food commercial but not as white - He likes to run through ditches and puddles)
His name is Cajun as he is from outside of New Orleans, going on 7 and extremely popular. When we went to obedience school people were constantly saying that he was the happiest dog they had ever seen.

Cajun had a drinking problem as a pup. Nothing he had to go to AA for, it was just water, A year of Prozac (for him not me) and some behavioral training (measuring his water intake etc) cured him and now he is only a sloppy drinker. It was worth everything we went to cure him of his OCD behavior.

I think I have Cajun for several reasons. Something to care for and look forward to seeing when I get home. Five minutes, five days, five months - it is all the same to a pet, always glad to see you. He (and pretty much any dog) makes me smile for no particular reason. I grew up having a dog and it just seems normal to me and my family to have one.

I am about to go out of town with work but will post a pic later.

So how about you?

I'm down to one cat now. A little grey tabby, a stray we got when she was a year old. She's a great cat, minds as well as a dog.

I'm on an open view lot, backing to golf course, open space Preserve beyond.....Lots of wildlife out there! But my cat knows the boundaries, hardly ever leaves the yard. People are amazed I can trust her. She wants to please me like a dog does.

I've had animals all my life. Raised with them, even paid extra for them way back when I was renting.....

I lived on a farm in Iowa. Big long driveway, fronting a highway. I wasn't supposed to be out there. But one day I got out on the highway, my dog ran in between me and a car, and was killed. I hadn't even started school yet.

My favorite dog belonged to my first husband. A Doberman he'd raised from a pup. From the very beginning, that dog chose me. She slept on the floor on my side of the bed. She followed me everywhere. If I went in the bathroom, she'd wait at the door for me to come out.....When I sat in a chair, she'd lay at my feet with one of her paws on my foot. I loved that dog.

Pets are great Screeners for Character. In between husbands I was dating two men. One sat on my couch scratching at his ankles like a flea got him.

The other hung his shirt on the back of a chair. One of my cats walked over and sprayed it! I'm mortified, jumping up, throwing it in the wash.....He's just shaking his head, laughing, saying "That's what they do."

My other cat at the time was a Scaredy-Cat. Scared of anything and everyone.....But, through his quiet, calm patience, eventually that man had my cat choosing him for a lap, eating out of his hand. And he was a dog person!

Which man do you think I married?

Can you tell I prefer people who prefer animals, and make room for them in their lives? Cats, dogs, horses, doesn't matter.....It speaks volumes about Character, to my way of thinking.

I had dogs for 30 years, 2 golden retrievers and my last one was a Westie who died 4 years ago. I decided not to get a dog again as my last dog was in a kennel to often for my liking due to my traveling. One day I would like to settle down for good, have a dog again and a couple of horses.

I have two cats: Launchpad and Shadow. Shadow and Sharli (deceased) were twins and I took them home when they were 8 weeks old in March 1999. I couldn't use the oven at my home, because they would hide under it until they grew too big to fit! Then I moved to Hobart in 2003 and took Launch in the following year when her owner could no longer look after her. She was mauled by a dog badly later that year and now has no tail. Sharli became ill and died in 2006 and Launch and Shadow absolutely loathe each other. They are always fighting.

Launch highly approves of men! I have to warn male visitors to my home, because as soon as he is sitting down, she will attempt to park her furry little butt on his knee.

Mostly they are entertaining. As I'm writing this, Shadow is playing 'chasings' with a tiny piece of cardboard all over the tiled floor.

I could do without their fixation with bringing me gifts though. I came home earlier this month to a live, wild rabbit loose in my home. It was unhurt, so I was able to release it back into the 'wild' across the road!

I have always had pets around me, and I can't imagine life any other way. When I was living at home, we had dogs. When I bought my townhouse I decided on cats, because I don't have a yard for dogs to run and play in.

Sidney is a Russian Blue, and he has the most beautiful pale green eyes. He was a stray that was found by a colleague's sister who couldn't keep him and didn't want to take him to the pound when she couldn't find his owner. He's a "talker." I was out of town this past weekend, and when I came home he spent a great deal of time "chastising me" for going away, in between cuddles and nuzzles, of course.

Murphy is a tuxedo cat, and he also has beautiful pale green eyes. He was a stray that an ex-boyfriend of mine found in his friend's barn. He was so tiny when I got him, and he's always been one to cuddle. His response to me going away is to not let me out of his sight once I'm home--and if he catches me packing before I actually leave, he tries to burrow under everything in my luggage so he can come along. He actually almost succeeded once, too, until I realized my clothes had taken on a life of their own and were suspiciously mewing like Murphy does. Murphy also "tucks me in" every night, too. I can't go to sleep until he hops into bed and cuddles with me for a bit--that's his routine and he sticks with it, no matter what. Then he licks my forehead, meows, and leaves.

They both love to chase the laser light key chain I have, and they will tumble over each other to be the one to get to the light first. They definitely have their own personalities: Sidney is more stand-offish, though he's afraid of his own shadow, while Murphy kind of reminds me of a bulldog sometimes--he just plows through anyone or anything to get to me if he wants to see me with this very single-minded, determined look on his face.

Sometimes they drive me nuts, but they're "my boys," and I couldn't imagine not having them in my life.

I have one extremely spoiled princess of a cat named Mitzi. often though i call her Miss FluffyBritches or Bean or Mitzi Sassypants.

She's a 15 lb calico maine coon and i love her to pieces. she tolerates me most of the time.

she was a rescue kitty, and the runt of the litter. i had to feed her formula for a few weeks when i first got her- she was soooo teeny. now she's hefty enough to beat the carp out of the nasty cocker spaniel across the street, which she has done ( she cut him across the nose and made him bleed, but in her defense he ran into our yard)

I got her around the same time my relationship was going down the toilet and although she was supposed to be my boyfriends cat, she loved me more. and i think that having her made it easier to break up with him, because i knew i wouldn't be alone. She makes me laugh everyday and greets me when i come home.

there's a picture of her in my photo gallery, if anyone's interested.

I agree. I never quite trust people who don't like animals.

Although I do not currently own any pets I do have a genuine kindness for domesticated cats and dogs. The "expressions" that come from pets can be priceless.
