pecking order is an interesting thing. went to a pet get-together the other day, and my boyfriend came later after work. when lilypup saw him, she made a bee line straight for him and jumped up in his lap. another owner commented that "we could tell who's dog she was," meaning my boyfriend. but she doesn't follow him so readily. and it crossed his mind that she was "owning him" when she did that, instead of the other way around.

Speaking of dachshunds . . . my brother and his wife have a dachshund/Yorkie mix. They call her a "dorkie"!

I had dogs for 30 years, 2 golden retrievers and my last one was a Westie who died 4 years ago. I decided not to get a dog again as my last dog was in a kennel to often for my liking due to my traveling. One day I would like to settle down for good, have a dog again and a couple of horses.
So sorry to hear about your loss! I lost another Westie, Lady, in December. While I think all pets are special, westies have a special spot in my heart.

I agree with scarlet13. There are so many rescue organizations for various breeds. Some of those dogs have been rescued from puppy mills and desperately need loving homes. My brother and his wife adopted a Japanese chin a couple years ago from a rescue. Mimi was four at the time and had been a breeder. She had a very dull haircoat (not any more!) and she will need eyedrops for the rest of her life. She is such a loving little dog and is really grateful to have a loving home! Another place to check is Petfinder.com. You just type in what you are looking for and your location and it will bring up available pets in shelters near you. I found two of my dogs through this site.
K9, My next westie will be from a rescue organization. After helping Cajun get through his OCD, I now feel comfortable that I could handle a rescue dog that might have issues.

I tend to think that a majority of the time pets end up with the owners that need them and vice versa. Your pets are lucky to have found you!

When my dog died, the cat never did get back in the chair. He only wanted to share it with the dog.....I finally got rid of the chair.

That's love for you.
I love that story! Do you have a pic? That would have been priceless.

Launch highly approves of men! I have to warn male visitors to my home, because as soon as he is sitting down, she will attempt to park her furry little butt on his knee
Every time you have fussed about Launchpad (keeping you up late at night etc) you refer to that furry little butt. I can just picture you lecturing Launch referencing "her furry little butt" LOL
