My school would never let us do this--it doesn't fit in with the "mission statement." Of course, they would encourage me to learn outside of the work day, though. It's just as well--I often find I don't have enough hours in the day as it is with everything I have to get done.
One of our teachers recently complained than not having half the day free after being handed extra lessons meant he would have to do some of his lesson prep work at home, seriously compromising the balance of his social dynamic.

I kid you not.

Someone needs to tell him to pull his head out of his butt and breathe some oxygen. You don't get into education because it increases your wealth and social status.

...and here I thought having an overloaded schedule...while teaching three classes, two subjects (English and Social Studies)which adds up to about 25-30 students per class...with no real prep time because I have to attend meetings during my preps...which means I am grading on average about more then 180 assignments every evening or weekends ....not to mention running around the school like a crazy person collecting data from teachers and doing assessments...was the norm for teachers.

The nerve of some folks!

I wish I had better control over my inner monologue (i.e., putting a filter on what comes out of my mouth).

I wish I could think more clearly under severe stress (i.e., when confronted with a situation I could think about it like a chess game and move thru the variables in an orderly fashion instead of reacting.

I wish I could SELECTIVELY read minds so I can determine when a woman that I like really likes me, or if I'm the backup plan and some other guy is the primary.

I wish I could consistently make the 3 point shot from the side... it eludes me.

His only concern is getting good press on his students facebook pages. Oh, and shoving a DVD on the whiteboard to keep the kids occupied when he doesn't feel like teaching them.
