At issue is the cost and time associated with looking your best – so that you can entice the Opposite Sex to notice you and want to see more of you!

FWIW, i think it's important that i spend money on maintenence. not so much on makeup and trendy clothing, but on skin care, waxing, gym membership, etc. I've seen women with very elaborate eye makeup and a moustashe that rivals my fathers.

Who keeps a tally?

If you have to ask, you can't afford it!

I get some of it... I recall once giving the girlfriend money to "get ready" for a "nice" date together when finances were rather skewed to my side of the scale.

Not sure what all went into it, but... $350 is what she asked for, and what she got. Best. Blinkin'. $350. Spent. Ever.

As far as my personal appearance goes, I've got to admit I'm lazy. No gym membership. I don't even want to know about waxing. No makeup for me. No "intimate apparel." I rarely do the cologne thing- makes me sneeze every time.

I do exercise more regularly when I'm in a relationship. I shave more often, as opposed to my normal lazy scruffy look. I stop wearing work clothes everywhere. Clean my car a little more often, my place a *lot* more often. I cook more often. I eat healthier. Collared, button-down shirts make a regular appearance, as do good quality ironed pants. I polish my boots and shoes once in a while, and treat the leather. I make more time for sleep, whereas now I get by on about four hours/day.

Uhm... That's about it. Pure. Unadulterated. Lazy. Male.

Interesting topic:
Eyebrow waxing/threading $10-20, every 2 months or so. Tweezers at home in between.
Mani/pedi $30-40, thrice a year in the summer. I do my own in between, after hikes, long days with winter boots, etc
Haircut Free, every two years since I donate my hair
Makeup $30-50 a year, I buy very little and barely use any.
Lotions Free, women give it to each other so much, I never had to buy any.
Lip gloss + facial sunscreen $120-150 a year, I use them like water
Hair products none. Hair clips $30 a year.
Shaving cream/razors none. Use electric, dry/wet.

I think that's my list

Hair--perm about 3x year @ $80 a shot; highlighting costs more and more the more gray I get in my hair (yikes)

Hair products--Hmmmm...I have a lot of hair on my head, so $100-$150/year (including shampoo/conditioner/mousse/hair spray)

Make-up--I don't wear a lot of it, but when I wear it, I wear the good stuff because my skin is kind of sensitive, so let's put that at $150/year

Skin care--Let's not talk about how much this costs, okay? Let's just say I'm having issues with these little lines on my face, and we're currently doing battle with one another. I don't want to turn 40 and I am resisting with everything inside of me!!!

Shaving cream/razors--Never tallied it, actually

Mani/pedi--I don't pay to have it done when I can do it myself.

Eyebrows--See above

Perfume--$80 a bottle, but it lasts me about a year.

Lotions to keep my skin soft/body wash--Bath and Body Works is my friend--I like to hit that place when they're having a sale and stock up, so I don't know what the real cost is. But I'm soft and I smell good.

All I can say is I'm glad I have a good job or I'd be looking mighty scary.

I am pretty low maintenance but I guess I do splurge on some things. I don't really do this for dating - just for me!!

Make-up - I buy my make-up about twice a year and it is usually about $500 a pop, so I guess $1000.00 a year. This includes face creams.

Hair - I only get my hair cut probably about three to four times a year and I don't dye my hair so that is pretty reasonable. I guess about $240 a year. And I guess about $200 a year on product.

Mani/Pedis - I use to go every couple of weeks and that is about $80 a pop. At the end of last year I had an unexpected expense - I had a sick kitty that cost me an arm, a leg and a cat so I cut back on that expense. But I did get one this weekend and I have to say, I do miss getting them. Unfortunately, I have those gnarly feet bottoms that Scarlet mentioned in the other thread so I need a professional to sandblast my feet for me.

Shopping - I am not a big shopper. I don't go often and when I do go, I prefer to shop alone. But I guess I go a few times a year and it is anywhere from a few hundred to a few hundred plus a few hundred a pop. So probably about $1000 to $1500 a year.

I live pretty cheaply so what you are looking at above are my big spending items minus one other (eating out - I do like good food once in awhile).
