I guess the thing that upsets me the most about society's expectations for men with these hideous gender roles is how badly it affects men.

This idea that men have to be strong hurts men and boys.

For some reason society thinks is if you have a member that you can function without assistance. And you look at young boys paying the price with high rates of suicide compared to girls.

Sure, when people complain that girls are harassed and are struggling in school, we jump to their needs. Meanwhile, fewer boys are going to college and many struggle far worse than girls.

And then you have grown men who were raised not to accept help. As one poster prior to this one "women don't like whimps" and "I like manly men". So what man doesn't want to be liked or loved? Unfortunately men end up killing themselves before asking for help.

It's even worse for men in the armed forces. How many of them return to the states to commit suicide because soldiers don't ask for help?

So if I seem a bit angry about all of this "be a man" stuff. That's the reason behind it.

Why should any man sacrifice just to make a woman happy? .

They must be looking for all those men who want to treat their woman "LIKE A PRINCESS".

And I've seen just as many of them around.

To each his own...

That would be the same for a woman as well? Do we mean "real" person? Take that back!!! That was my thought exacty ! I had first dibbs!

I suspect that when we see the term "Real Man" we are often expected to fit the physical requirements - be muscular, athletic, a good performer betwixt the cotton, build fire, fix cars etc ad nausem....
Actually, as that essentially is my EH profile, but I sang and played trumpet in church choir (on sebatical), piano (1898 George Steck B.Grand), tenor sax, plumbing, electrical, computers, Jeeps (and the occasional car), woodworking, cooking (humbly: culinary creativity), studied medicine, law, philosophy, psychology, Spanish, German, and whole bunch of other "stuff" (well over 300 credit hours) just so I can fly to AK next week to help my mother (who along with my deceased father gave so much for me unquestioningly through the hardest of times (not me, but good comparison of me 20 years ago) : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ob-AguFXff0 ) )work on the septic system. "Successful?" three incredibly beautiful girls, 2 dogs, a house, 4 Jeeps (yes I need them all), a Suburban (tow rig), and one incredibly beautiful intelligent tallented fun crazy girlfriend that I am trying my hardest to earn /deserve her trust and love.

Some added notes / observations / feelings:

Anyone who knows exactly what they want is generally much less tollerant of CHANGE

"I'm looking for a man who accepts responsibility and is a leader" Said like someone who is too weak to accept their own responsibility or take chances (lead)

Two most important rules of life
1: Don't worry about the little things
2: Everything is little

Mountains are placed in your path so you can build the stamina to help others

For those of you put in your profile that you're looking for a "REAL MAN", what do you mean?

If you want a "REAL MAN", does this mean I get to kick back and drink beer, belch, and scratch my private parts, while watching a football game and while you're in the kitchen cooking my dinner?

How does a "REAL MAN" contrast with one who is not real? Are you really just saying that cross-dressers need not apply?

Nah, that means they are looking for a politically correct man who says yes & agrees to whatever the woman wants. You know; fully domesticated who worships her feet [and shoes if you know what I mean.]

Also and this ones important, he's not a clone, born in a test tube [the next rave] and he doesn't cry if she forgets it's their 23rd day " anniversary" together [or 26th day together.] Also they want him to be fully capable of cleaning a whole house in four hours and changing diapers of their child/ren WHILE talking nicely to her combative mother on the phone.

I'll try to scrounge up a photo of a "real" man. I hope I cleared this up.

{disclosure-no puns, jokes or grinding of the teeth intended. No mothers in laws were hurt in the making of this post.}

Fug it, I lost my whole post-it went into moderation and my "copied" post went poof! Dang it was funny. I wrote it an hour ago and then had to do some chores so don't remember nada.

I guess what they mean by a real man {and that description changes from woman to woman, minute by minute...etc} is the following:

A politically correct man who answers "yes" to everything his woman asks. Who agrees with her 100%, worships her feet [and wears her shoes when she's not around but let's not get into that] and who can clean a whole house in four hours while changing a diaper AND talking nicely to his hostile mother in law.

Oh I found a picture of a "real" man. I'll attach it.

{disclaimer-Holy Loading pages Catwoman! This website is the slowest in the West! :d Anyhoo no hostile mothers in laws were hurt in the making of this post. Prince was well treated. NO! Not by me.}

c2009 no fun intended productions
laughing, smiling or having any kind of fun is strictly forbidden! Penalty if caught-you must sing one Prince song or hum one Black Eyed Peas song. Better yet if you are a woman, can you dance like in the vid "My Humps?"

this is a non copy written post...

You are right. But we live in a politically correct fake fartificial world [yes that's the correct spelling.] That still includes women first...and men today, our language [not the PC men] is CENSURED more than ever in American history.

Hopefully with all this newfound freedom, extra rights + advantages for women, they won't just talk about reality TV shows, chocolate, dieting, shopping and complain about men & online dating.

Hey I hope no one in your family got hurt over in Iraq.

Well, I always took this as a real man being different than a plastic man that women sometimes keep under their mattresses. So I've been told.....

Why didn't I think of this idea before?
Maybe I don't need a real man after all...
