Physical appearance is such an issue, because unfortunately we can't see personality as easily. However appearance should not be the only measure of a person, I have met many very attractive women who have been horrible people that no one likes and I have met unattractive women who are almost saintly, and while I probably wouldn't date either person, I would want to have a friendship with the nice unattractive person and stay away from the mean attractive person
Amen to that.

Personally, I have come to the point where I feel that anyone who is compelled to be so bold as to intrude into my own personal preferences for who I wish to spend the rest of my life with or criticize me as being shallow or superficial for any of the criteria that I have set for that future someone has issues of their own that they would be better off attending to. If someone is driven to make some pejorative assumption about me based on what criteria I set for a mate, perhaps it is they themselves who are being shallow and superficial – because they have not taken the time to understand the “real me” and all of the very personal reasons that are behind each of my choices. I have had one very successful marriage and he died through no fault of his own – or mine. I have no doubt that I will find another husband one day who will be as equally wonderful… and who will meet all of the criteria above
That right there is the heart of the issue and is irrefutable by it's very nature. So unless you live in Iran or North Korea where the government will tell you what you can and cannot believe, it's our choice and right to be unattracted by your looks and that doesn't make us shallow.

To the OP, Susan:

Don't worry! You are not going to be compelled to accept an engagement ring on your first date. You will have as much time as you require to assess a man's true motive. That is our job. To observe and assess carefully at all levels before making a decision that will impact the rest of our lives. Instead of worrying about them judging you, take care not to judge them. Deal with each man as an individual human being and look for whatever criteria that you desire in a life partner. If you find that a man is interested only in the physical and cares little for how beautiful you are as a person, let him go so that he can find a more appropriate match for himself. You do not need to worry about getting tied to a man who does not appreciate you as a human being unless you choose to select such a man. The choice will always be yours and no one on this forum is going to be by your side when the moment comes for you to make that decision.

Oh, and congratulations!!!

That doesn't speak to whether or not it is as a result of learning/environment.

[COLOR=black][FONT=Times New Roman]What I've been reading is that infants react at an autonomous level to facial features, at an age of months. This is presented with conclusions that visual judgment of others is an innate response.

You are such the jokester! Thanks for the good laugh.

One of the reasons is cultural. Larger bodies are believed to indicate better health/heartiness and, in particular, that one is not suffering from AIDS, which is killing thousands of people in some areas of Africa.

Trust me when i say that i find your lack of ability to offer any credible refutation and excuse making just as amusing
