This may be a silly question, but I've been pondering this for a little bit. I run and then just started to cycle at the beach. When I run I get a few smiles, but I've been noticing lately that when I cycle and pass a man who is cycling there seems to be respect, friendly interest, etc.

Oh and by the way this isn't cycling on a beach cruiser either, I'm on a mountain bike, and they are either on a mountain bike or racing bike. Is there a tight biking community, or is it that you all (men) don't see that many women who bike seriously, etc.? I'm just wondering. I even stopped for a break last week and I had a guy asking me questions about distance, timing, etc. I just do it for fun and exercise, but I am rather intrigued by men turning their heads in what seems to be some sort of respect as I pass by or smile.

Now I'm working on smiling as I pass, not that it will do much good in meeting people since we seem to zoom by each other.

What say you cycling men?

I saw more women jogging than I ever saw women biking (in my area.) For me to see a woman who also liked biking was a rare thing.

I cannot wait for cycling weather! OP, I think maybe I'll drop and roll if I see a guy smile at me

This is what I thought. I'm getting a lot of guys with a somewhat respectful/surprised look on their face. Then as I ride by they turn to keep looking. It's been a very interesting thing to experience in the last couple of weeks. Thanks outlaw1, I think my thinking was correct. The ratio of men to women who bike is a lot greater.

You go glass! Oh and don't get into an accident if a cycler smiles at you. I think there's sort of a brotherhood/sisterhood once you bike. It's almost this respect thing going on (at least that's what I feel). Offer a smile and I'm sure you'll be getting many back.

People into riding will often give one another a nod, perhaps you look really good on your wheels! Another possibility is that the guys see a lady with which they ALREADY clearly have something in common....

Well I can guarantee you this come to a group Mountain bike ride if you want to meet men. You already have one thing in common. YOU will be the center of attention. On our rides there is usually 10 guys to every female.

^^^ ABSOLUTELY!!

Also, it is soooo refreshing to see women who actually get outside to ride. Versus only staying indoors to do spinning workouts (although I still admire that those womenwant to be fit) even when the weather is GREAT.

Wow, great feedback, thank you guys. I'll have to look into mountain biking next. I don't know if I'm ready for that yet, we'll see. I ust looked at cycling on meetup and am thinking of joining a group. Oh and I do hope I'm doing my wheels justice Notyertypical! One can only hope!
Notamaninpower, I actually can't stand running or riding inside a gym. I'll do it if I have to, but it's not as refreshing as the wind in your face and the ocean to the side of you. Nothing can replace that!
