I recently took the e-harmony profile test and joined for this weekend only.I received matches, but the more I looked at those matches I became concerned since I do not want to have that close of a match up in personality, etc. that there are not enough differences to make a relationship exciting and unexpected. I was actually uncomfortable with the sameness that I was finding. Does anyone else have that same opinion?

I actually think that being with someone exactly like you has the possibility of greatness. There is a higher upside but without effort possibly a higher downside as well. Laziness could result in major failure.Differences keep you apart & at a distance.

I think that having a greater understanding of the way that your mate thinks would be priceless. Instantly knowing what can drive your partner is a big benefit as well.

A couple that enjoys the same things can go about those things with greater passion than if one person is only in it half-heartedly. You can have a deeper connection.

I would prefer to be with someone pretty closeto my personality.

I think that it's like most things... having similarities with your partner is good in moderation. Maybe even high volumes of moderation.

You can both like the same sports, tv shows, hangout places, job interests, etc... but at the end, those are just the details. Where is really comes out is listening to how someone expresses themselves, how they look at the world, etc. That's the kind of stuff that isn't right there in the profile. So while the profiles may start looking the same after a while... it's good to remember that underneath each is (hopefully) a very different personality from the others.

Yep, I've often said that I want to meet the guy version of me. Not to say we have to have the exact same likes/dislikes, hobbies/interests, etc. Because differences in things like that could be fun and interesting. But, I would prefer someone who's overall personality very closely matches my own.

I've found thatin some respects, the greater the difference in basic personality traits, outlooks, attitudes, etc= the greater the conflict.

You will find less similarities as you get to know someone.

I had a match I dated a few times. He said he didn'thave atemper - not true

He didn't do drugs - not true

oops wait, my mistake, this isn't a thread about matches who lie on their profile

It helps to have some similarities as well as some differences. There are some basic things that really should match for a relationship to work and it's the differing details that bring in the excitement. I guess the nutshell version would be that majority of important things need to be the same, but then you still have individual things that you enjoy and do apart and those things bring fresh perspectives to the relationship.

Looks: Heck no!

I'm looking for compatibility and some similarity (temperament, etc), humor, but maybe slightly different so that I can still have a discussion with the other person, she'll be able to give a different point of view, but also understand where I'm coming from.

I need someone who can make me laugh, and enjoy my sense of humor. It helps if we are both easy-going. I can't handle someone that constantly has to be on the move. I like my home, and enjoy relaxing in it.

But I also have a temper. I know this. I've accepted it. It's not outrageous! But I am a very passionate person. And when the Italian comes out...I tend to get a little loud and animated. I have to let it out, or I would explode like a pressure cooker. I always say that I have a lot of patience, but a very short fuse. It takes a pack of matches to light it. But once it's lit...it Blows!!!

So I need someone that can accept that part of me as well. However, I don't deal with someone with the same temper pattern. That's just a combination of Turmoil!
