Oh...good thread...Muir Woods in CA...walking through those grand old trees, I felt what you are supposed to feel in a church or temple...the spirit of the unnameable Divine.
I understand that feeling. I had a very spiritural experience in a mosque in Turkey. I'm not Muslim, and anyone that knows anything about the Islamic faith in the Islamic countries women normally aren't allowed in the area of the mosque that men are and especially not during one of the most important prayers of the day on one of the most important days in the history of the country, and a small group of about 13 students including myself were allowed to sit on a prayer rug in a tiny hole in the wall mosque in Istanbul during Friday noon prayer (the most important prayer time of the week), and on the 30th anniversary of one of the most promentiant men in Turkey's history's death. It was very moving. I also found the call to prayer throughout both Egypt and Turkey to be beauitful, I loved hearing it. Although most thought it was just noise, I thought it was beautiful.
