A couple weeks ago a friend took me across the border into Mexico to meet his sister-in-law, 'R'....but at the last minute she had to work late, so I didn't meet her that weekend. I did meet her whole family though, including her triplet sister.
This past Saturday afternoon I bought some ice cream for her nephews and niece and took it down to them. I actually didn't expect to meet 'R', as she works on Saturdays....but her sister (who I had already met) invited me to go to a children's birthday party and R showed up later.
We got to talk a little bit and enjoyed watching the kids play musical chairs etc. and took some photos. We drove around the city a little bit afterward and she seemed pretty interested in sticking close to me. When I left she asked me when I was going to come back....which my friend and his wife told me is quite forward for her, as they are pretty conservative. Though....apparently by telling her I'm busy next Saturday during the day she got the mistaken impression that I either wasn't really interested in her or that I maybe have another girlfriend. Oy vay.
So this morning I sent her an email with some of the photos we had taken, as I had told her I would. I also explained more about why I'm going to be busy during the day next Saturday....but that I'd still like to come down to see her that evening anyway as I don't want to wait 2 weeks before seeing her again. At least I'm getting a little help from her sister (my friend's wife) to help me navigate the cultural differences that seem to exist.
