Well since all the guys have wussed out on offering us an explanation as to why taking a girl's virginity is such a prize, I will hazard a guess that you all know the reasons for it being some kind of holy grail that you can brag about are just plain shameful.
It's treating the girl like a prize to be won, not a person with feelings who is likely going to be heartbroken to find out she was just a notch on the bedpost.
I don't believe the men are being wussies here. I just don't think the men you're looking for to answer this are here! (they are all out having s-e-x with virgins)
I never considered it to be the holy grail nor a prize. I've only been with one virgin and I was a virgin myself. Did I brag about it..absoulutley not! I was 14 and had no clue what the heck I was doing. I was more nervous I did something wrong. Sure I told all my friends I wasn't a virgin anymore, but that was about me not the girl.
