I work with a great many teachers, and many that I know don't travel not because they don't have the time but rather because they don't have the many. Teachers salaries around here are quite low but are improving. (Or at least, was before this economy mess. There had been a plan passed to raise teacher salaries by 3% every year for the next five years.) Anyway, these teaches when they can afford to travel often do so in the summer months or during the Christmas holidays. They take many short get aways on the weekend, leaving early on Friday and arriving home Sunday night. I would think a teacher would be an excellent travel companion, as many other jobs people only get off paid two weeks per year.
